How does it work? - Bluetooth compatibility

blubell uses the Bluetooth technology, so your computer has to be enabled for Bluetooth wireless technology in order to use our software application. Computers become enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology either by having a built in Bluetooth module or by using a USB Bluetooth adaptor (dongle).
PC with built in Bluetooth wireless technology
Bluetooth is now built into many laptops and desktop computers, please check your computer specifications to verify if it has a Bluetooth module.
USB Bluetooth Adaptor (Dongle)
Even if your computer doesn’t have built in Bluetooth wireless technology, don’t despair; you can still use blubell. You need to buy a USB stick – also called a Bluetooth dongle; it looks like a memory stick, fits in the USB port of your computer and provides you with a Bluetooth range of between 10 and 100m ( 33 and 330 ft).
Bluetooth drivers
For Bluetooth wireless technology to work you'll need to install Bluetooth drivers which are normally supplied on CD with your Bluetooth hardware, by your PC manufacturer or Bluetooth adaptor manufacturer. Alternatively you can download the latest Bluetooth drivers from your manufacturer's support page.
When installing the Bluetooth drivers please follow the instructions from the CD/ manuals you received from your Bluetooth hardware manufacturer
After the installation is complete, look for the Bluetooth icon in the system tray at the bottom right and if it is white with a blue background  then you have successfully completed the driver installation. If the icon isn't present or is red with a blue background  then you should try and re-install the drivers, as they haven’t been correctly installed.
blubell works with Widcomm Bluetooth solution and Widcomm provides links to the support pages of the known OEMs of their Bluetooth software. Please click here to go to Widcomm's Bluetooth drivers page.
We are also working on making blubell compatible with the Toshiba Bluetooth solution, the second major supplier of Bluetooth solutions.
If your computer is currently using the Toshiba Bluetooth, please register your email here and we will notify you once blubell supports Toshiba.
blubell has been tested and works with a vast number of Bluetooth headsets in the field today. Performance will depend on the quality of your headset, computer and Bluetooth solution and how recent it is. By using our free trial version you can asses for yourself if you need to upgrade your equipment.
And even if you need to upgrade, headsets and dongles are dropping in price day by day. The latest Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR standard is a vast improvement over older standards so perhaps you should consider an upgrade anyway?
Widcomm Bluetooth which is supported by blubell is used in several brands of quality dongles. See our recommended list of headsets and USB adaptors (dongles) here.
